Flinders Street railway station located in central Melbourne is one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks and a popular rendezvous spot. Currently the main terminus building is underutilised. The project explores the urban condition of the site and possibilities for redevelopment. Melbourne’s Central Business District’s Hoddle grid is bounded on the south and west by railway lines, creating a major pedestrian barrier dividing the city and the Yarra River. The construction of Federation Square over railway lines offers a possible solution as to how to bridge this barrier.

On an urban scale the project proposes a linear park built over the railway lines connecting the MCG and Docklands Stadium. This gesture would improve connectivity from the CBD to the river while also enhancing pedestrian access to these sport precincts. On an architectural resolution, an AFL museum and sports ticketing hub is proposed to be built adjacent to Flinders Street railway station.
